Ferrum Area Plan

Previously, two separate plans were drafted for the Ferrum area, the Ferrum Community Plan in 1999, and the Ferrum Village Center Revitalization Plan in 2000; neither plan was adopted by the Board of Supervisors. Both plans addressed the needs for transportation improvements, gateway and sidewalk introduction, as well as design and development guidelines. Franklin County has been working closely with both Renaissance Planning and Michael Baker International to create an Area Plan that responds to Ferrum’s needs and wants, while also incorporating ideas from the previously drafted plans.

Please click on the links below to access the two plans.

Ferrum Community Plan 1999
Ferrum Village Center Revitalization Plan 2000

In February 2018, Franklin County hosted its kick-off meeting for the Ferrum Village Area Plan to hear from stakeholders and members of the Ferrum Community. Franklin County Staff, a representative from Renaissance Planning, and a representative from Roanoke Valley-Alleghany Regional Commission were all present to support discussion and engage with community members about the Ferrum Village Area Plan. Members of the community were asked to provide their opinion on the most pressing needs of the area, the prominent identifiers of the community, as well as the changes they wished to see within Ferrum. Franklin County staff and consultants have since been using the results to further shape the area plan. Additional meetings will be held in the future, as the plan progresses.

Please click on the link below to access the presentation and results from the kick-off meeting.
