Social Services

The Franklin County Department of Social Services is one of 120 local departments in Virginia's public social services system. The Department is an agency of county government which administers federal, state, and local public assistance and social work service programs.

Fuel Program begins on October 9th, 2018 through November 13th, 2018.  Applications are accepted online at https://commonhelp.virginia.gov/access/, by calling the Enterprise Customer Service Center at (855) 635 – 4370, and at the local department of social services.

CommonHelp - CommonHelp  is a web-based system that allows Virginia citizens 24/7 easy access to screen and apply for Cash Assistance (TANF), Child Care Services, Energy Assistance (Fuel, Crisis and Cooling), Food Assistance (SNAP) and Medical Assistance. You can also renew your eligibility and report changes for all programs noted on the CommonHelp website.  

Energy Assistance-The Cooling Program begins on June 17, 2019 and runs through August 15, 2019.  You can apply with a paper application, online at commonhelp.virginia.gov, or over the phone at 1-855-242-8282.  You cannot pick up an application, drop off an application, call in or apply online until June the 15th per policy guidelines.  You can pick up applications at 11161 Virgil H Goode Hwy Rocky Mount VA 24151 or at 120 East Court Street Rocky Mount VA 24151.
