DEPUTY SHERIFF
The Franklin County
Sheriff’s Department is seeking applications to review
in order to select qualified candidates to appoint in
the position of sworn Deputy Sheriff. All Deputy
Sheriff positions, including those of supervisory,
command staff and other specialty positions (e.g.,
Investigator, D.A.R.E., Bailiff, et cetera), will be
appointed from the applicant pool according to their

successful applicant will assist in daily upkeep,
cleaning and security of County park facilities and
grounds; monitor park usage and provide communication
necessary to protect the public trust. Incumbent must
provide his/her own transportation;

Applicant must have and maintain a driving record
acceptable to Franklin County and its insurance
carrier(s) and have a successful criminal background
check. Position
will require work at specified dates and times to

HUMAN RESOURCES &
RESEARCH ANALYST

EXTENSION AGENT
Virginia Tech/Virginia
Cooperative Extension invites applications for the
following position in Central District - Agriculture
and Natural Resources Extension Agent located in
Franklin County, specialty area Animal Science or Crop
and Soil Sciences.
An Extension Agent, Agriculture and Natural Resources,
provides leadership in determining, implementing, and
evaluating educational programs which are designed to
solve social, economic, and environmental problems in
agriculture and natural resources. The agent is an
educator, an information provider, a needs assessor, a
problem solving resource for clientele, and networks
with the agricultural industry, specialists, Extension
agents and agency representatives.
Provides current research-based information to
citizens by employing various delivery methods
targeted to diverse audiences; works closely with
producers, agri-business, community leaders, Extension
Leadership Councils and appropriate agents and
specialists to identify and prioritize issues,
problems and opportunities; uses farm and business
visits as a means to remain knowledgeable of specific
local needs and problems related to agricultural
production, marketing, and environmental protection;
fosters communication among agricultural producers,
marketers, processors and consumers; maintains a high
level of proficiency in subject matter field by
participating in in-service training and professional
activities; works closely with citizens and local,
state, and federal officials to aid Virginia in
preparing and responding to natural or other
emergencies and disasters.
Must have a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree (BA or BS)
in a relevant discipline from an accredited college or
university; master's degree is preferred. A master's
degree and promotion to Extension Agent are required
no later than the sixth year of employment. Commercial
agriculture experience preferred; demonstrated ability
to recruit, select, train and manage volunteers;
demonstrated ability to lead groups, plan, implement,
facilitate, teach and evaluate educational information
programs; knowledge and use of computer technology in
educational programming and management; excellent
communication and presentation skills; ability to work
effectively with low income, limited resource and
minority audiences; ability to work with minimal
supervision in an unstructured setting.
